What is MicroTCA?
From PICMG website, the MicroTCA specifications denoted mTCA.x is a new series of PICMG specifications, that take the extensive knowledge and practices developed with AdvancedTCA and AdvancedMC applies them to the area of smaller form factor plug in systems.

What does it really mean?
It is a system-level blade architecture. The blade is about 3" x 5" plugging into a really fast backplane. The backplane is a switched backplane so that each blade can talk to each other. The backplane can easily handle mutliple 1GE's or 10GbE.
